On first spray, it immediately opens with the scent and texture of the jeans accord, like wearing your favorite shorts, the denim sticking to your sweaty skin on a hot summer day, and the asphalt radiating underneath your feet as you hop onto your bike to ride into town.
The perfume than softens into a powdery orris, a smell reminiscent of my mother’s setting powder spilled onto the bathroom counter combined with the floral note of lavender and smooth warmth of sandalwood.
This is a perfume that gives you comfort and nostalgia, and yet provides intrigue and something new. Andrea Maack and perfumer Céline Barel really outdid themselves in creating this fragrance and it has become a staple in my own collection.

Have you ever fallen in love with a fragrance at first sniff? Indigo is so effortlessly cool and chic. I adore a good Iris type fragrance, but this is so much more. With the uniqueness of a blue jean accord alongside asphalt, lavender, and a musky sandalwood base, it’s a powdery fresh masterpiece.

I'll admit that after reading the notes, I was skeptical of Indigo. After smelling the sample, I completely changed my mind. I think it's a lovely everyday fragrance. Definitely smells like blue jeans -- powdery and soft without crossing into baby powder/White Diamonds body powder territory. My boyfriend likes this one a lot for himself, and I hope to save up and buy him a full size bottle!

As a lover of orris, musk, and unique scents, I knew I had to get my hands on Indigo Extract the moment it dropped, and it did not disappoint! It opens with an intriguing yet entirely wearable blend of sun-warmed asphalt and fresh denim, perfectly capturing that nostalgic scent of standing up off warm pavement in your favorite jeans.
As it settles, powdery orris and herbal lavender emerge, adding a gorgeous, refined soft-focus layer. The warm sandalwood and musk base keeps the whole experience cozy and grounded. It truly evokes the essence of a well-worn pair of jeans. It's unisex, moderately projecting, and surprisingly long-lasting. Pro tip: Spray a little directly onto your denim!

Indigo is exactly what the description and the other reviews promise. I admit I was wary - wondering if the powdery / asphalt would come through stronger than desired. Asphalt sounds intimidating but it’s there to add urban subtlety— not to shock— and as others point out, it works so well as a top note. What remains is a slightly familiar but completely fresh blend of orris, lavender and just enough sandalwood and musk to feel warm and unisex, not flowery.
